BMW Museum - Renovation concept of building services after water damage

Client: BMW

Project: Due to a defective sprinkler piping, the double floor in the basement of the BMW Museum was partly filled with water leading to a considerable water damage. These damages at the technical installation were to be analysed and eliminated at costs as low as possible. At the same time the operation of the museum should be restricted to a minimum.

Result: The expert of the insurance company estimated the damage to approx. 2 million EUR – this estimation was based on a 1:1 exchange of the damaged elements. Checking the damages led to the result that the building had originally been built with too much insulation. Consequently, the elements were not to be exchanged completely and the building could be renovated during ongoing operation. Future water damages can be avoided by separating the energy channel by a water pressure-tight door.

Total costs: 336.480,- EUR
Estimated damage by expert: 2.000.000,- EUR
